What’s Happening:
The entire world is watching what is unfolding in Ukraine. Despite sanctions and other measures by world leaders, Putin continues his push into the foreign country. At the time of this writing, Ukraine still stands. Their president is defiant against the Russian invasion, urging allies to come to Ukraine’s aid.
Putin has threatened anyone that tries to stop him with nuclear weapons. The use of nuclear weapons by any country during a war is essentially suicide. Their enemies would retaliate with similar measures, wiping out cities. In response to the threat, the Ukrainian ambassador said there was an easier way for Putin to end his life.
From Daily Wire:
Speaking of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s rhetoric saying he would put Russia’s nuclear forces on alert, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Sergiy Kyslytsya, snapped, in a reference to the suicide of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, “If he wants to kill himself, he doesn’t need to use a nuclear arsenal. He has to do what the guy in Berlin did in the bunker in May 1945.”
Using bold language, the UN ambassador from Ukraine called Putin’s threat to use nukes suicidal. And, if Putin wants to “kill himself” he could do “what the guy in Berlin did in the bunker” in 1945. Kyslytsya is referencing how Hitler died, who reportedly killed himself in a bunker at the close of WWII.
By saying this, Kyslytsya is telling Putin that the use of nuclear weapons would only end up hurting Russia. We can’t predict what would happen if Putin was crazy enough to drop WMDs. But we do know that other nations might quickly respond, attacking Russia with their own nukes. This could lead to a fast and utterly destructive conflict, in which few would survive.
Would Putin come out on top, then? Of course not. If he did manage to survive, he would suffer tremendous loss in his own country. Kyslytsya is advising him it would be better if he follow Adolf’s lead instead. That would at least save numerous lives in the process.
Kyslytsya used such harsh words, because of the intensity of the moment. Russia continues to push into Ukraine, undeterred by any measures from outside forces. NATO and other countries refuse to fight—and Ukrainians are hammered from nearly all sides. Germany and other nations are providing weapons, but it’s unclear how long Ukraine can hold off Russia—if at all.
Key Takeaways:
- Ukraine’s UN ambassador blasted Putin for threats of nuclear weapons.
- Kyslytsya said Putin should instead “kill himself” the way Hitler did in 1945.
- This comes as Russia continues to push into Ukraine.
