Trump Plans to File Presidential Immunity Appeal Just 2 Days Before Scheduled Sentencing

Former President Donald Trump just got some amazing news from a federal judge that is sure to make liberal heads explode. The judge in Trump’s hush money trial pushed back a crucial ruling for presidential immunity. In fact, he delayed it to only two days before the former president is scheduled to be sentenced.

The immunity decision had been scheduled for September 6, and the sentencing date was set for September 18. Judge Juan M. Merchan, however, has since postponed the immunity ruling to September 16. He did this after Trump’s lawyers asked him to first rule on their latest effort to get him to step aside from the case due to his daughter’s ties to the Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.

Unsurprisingly, liberals have since gone into full panic mode over this. They are now speculating that Trump’s legal team will use an interlocutory appeal two days before the sentencing based on the Supreme Court presidential immunity ruling.

From MSN:
…Legal scholars predict Trump is about to use his new presidential immunity powers to execute an unprecedented legal maneuver, one that will delay his hush-money sentencing, now set for September 18, until well after voters cast their ballots.

Two days before his sentencing, Trump, they predict, will seek something never before allowed in the appellate courts in New York or in most states for that matter: an interlocutory appeal. Interlocutory is just a fancy, legal term for the kind of appeal that is filed before a case wraps up on the trial-court level.

The Left Will Do Anything To Take Trump Down

Liberals can kick and scream as much as they want to about this, but there’s nothing unfair about it. Clearly, Trump believes that the Supreme Court’s recent constitutional ruling on presidential immunity can at least delay his sentencing.

If the left could put their hatred for Trump aside for even one second, maybe they would see how important it is for the sentencing of a former president in a case such as this one to be delayed while he runs for office. Democrats are always claiming that Trump and his supporters are a threat to democracy. Despite this, Democrats are the ones who are constantly trying to usurp the Democratic process by using this case to make it as difficult as possible for Trump to have a fair shot in this election.

It should also be noted that Judge Merchan should indeed step down from this case. His daughter previously worked for Harris during her failed 2020 presidential campaign.

Despite this, Judge Merchan has twice refused calls from Trump’s lawyers to resign from this case amidst questions about his ability to be impartial. However, each of those refusals came before Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee.

We can only hope that Judge Merchan’s latest decision to postpone the immunity ruling indicates that he’s finally considering actually stepping down from this case. With the presidential election fast approaching, the stakes of this case could not be any higher. A judge whose own daughter has close ties to Harris is the last person who should be presiding over it.

Key Takeaways:

  • The judge in Trump’s hush money case pushed back a ruling on his presidential immunity.
  • Liberals fear Trump will use an interlocutory appeal based on the SCOTUS presidential immunity ruling.
  • Trump’s lawyers are pushing for this judge to step down from the case.
