GOP Drops Sledgehammer on Biden – They’re Considering Trump for 1 Genius Role

All signs point to Donald Trump becoming the GOP nominee for president. As he builds support, it appears the party leaders are getting behind him. He continues to garner endorsements.

It’s hard to deny that most of the party wants him to return to the White House. And it appears some Republican figures want Trump to expand his influence even more.

Some folks within Trump’s circle of influence are considering a major role for him to play this year. It’s unclear if Trump would accept. But if he does, it will send a powerful message to President Biden.

From NBC News:
Aides and allies close to former President Trump have discussed the former president giving the official Republican response to President Joe Biden’s March 7 State of the Union address, according to five people familiar with the talks.

Two of the sources said that Trump himself has discussed it, but both said he is leaning against the high-profile gig.

The decision on who will deliver the response rests with Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

Some allies close to Trump have floated the idea of having him give the official Republican response to Biden’s upcoming State of the Union address. According to reports, Trump is leaning against giving this speech.

But the final decision will be made by Republican House leaders, including Speaker Johnson.

It would not come as a surprise if Trump agrees to give this response. This speech is often when the opposing party of the president gives a rebuttal to his claims. Given that this is an election year, this response will be a powerful opportunity for candidate Trump to make an appeal to the American people.

And, if we are being honest, Trump’s involvement in this night will bring many more viewers. In recent years, viewership for the SOTU has been low. It appears that Americans are not interested in what Biden has to say about the country.

But if Trump was giving the response, that could attract many more viewers. Including those who oppose Trump.

It is unknown yet who will give the official Republican response.

Key Takeaways:

  • Some Republicans are recommending Trump give the official party response to Biden’s State of the Union address.
  • Trump reportedly is leaning against the idea; House Speaker Johnson and others will make the decision.
  • Should Trump give the response, it could bring in many more viewers to the event.
