The world is still in shock over the assassination attempt on the life of Donald Trump on Saturday. This marked the first attempt on the life of a current or former president in over forty years.
This shooting is an unspeakable tragedy. It is also a sobering reminder of the divisive political times that we are currently living in. However, one good thing has just come from it, as someone who has been begging for Secret Service protection for quite some time has finally been granted his request.
The Biden administration announced on Monday that in the wake of the assassination attempt on Trump, the Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has finally been given the Secret Service protection that he’s been pushing for.

“In light of this weekend’s events, the president has directed me to work with the Secret Service to provide protection to Robert Kennedy Jr.,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said during a White House press briefing.“Thank you to President Biden for granting me Secret Service protection,” RFK Jr. said in a post to X not long afterwards. “And I am so grateful to Gavin deBecker & Associates for keeping me safe for the last 15 months of my Presidential campaign.”
RFK Jr. Repeatedly Denied Secret Service Protection
Though he’s been polling in the double digits in some polls, Kennedy has repeatedly been denied any Secret Service protection over the past few months. According to the official Secret Service website, only “major” presidential candidates and their running mates are “eligible” for Secret Service protection. Mayorkas had previously claimed that Secret Service protection for Kennedy was “not warranted.”
It seemed to many that it was especially cruel to deny Kennedy Secret Service protection, given his family history. Both his father U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and uncle President John F. Kennedy were assassinated in the 1960s. This means that Kennedy knows firsthand just how dangerous it can be to his own life to throw his hat into such an intense presidential race as this one.
Even Trump himself pointed out earlier in the day on Monday that Kennedy deserved to be given the Secret Service protection that he’s been asking for.

Kennedy Should Have Been Given Secret Service Protection Earlier
There is quite frankly no excuse for why it took this long for Kennedy to be given Secret Service protection. It’s despicable that it literally took an assassination attempt on a former president’s life for the Biden administration to give in and finally give Kennedy the protection that he deserves.
This also goes to show just how threatened Biden and his fellow leftists may feel by Kennedy. It should be noted that the Kennedy family has a long history with the Democratic Party. Biden and his supporters are likely petrified that if Kennedy is able to gain traction in this race as an Independent, he may garner some crucial left-wing votes that would go to the current president in his absence.
Perhaps the Biden administration feared that if they gave Kennedy Secret Service protection, it would only further legitimize him as a candidate. In the end, this is the last thing that they ever wanted to do.
The assassination attempt on Trump changed everything, however. Now, the dangers that candidates are facing in this race can no longer be denied. We’re glad that Kennedy finally has Secret Service protection. Here’s hoping the agents in his detail are ready to work overtime to protect Kennedy.
