What’s Happening:

Don’t believe the claims of the marijuana lobby. States that have legalized recreational marijuana use have only lived to regret it. DUIs and DWIs have skyrocketed. Homelessness exploded. And other drug use increases, as adults buy marijuana for teenagers and use the money to buy the harder stuff.

The lobbyists and activists claim it is good for the economy. Not really. Yet they tried to sink their teeth into yet another conservative state–to coerce the voting public to willingly legalize this dangerous drug. This is how the voters responded.

Oklahoma voters on Tuesday rejected the legalization of recreational marijuana, defying 21 other states that approved the step in the past decade…

Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt and many of the state’s GOP legislators, including nearly every Republican senator, opposed the idea. Former Republican Gov. Frank Keating, an ex-FBI agent, and Terri White, the former head of the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, led the “no” campaign.

Wow. Sixty-one percent of voters rejected a ballot measure to legalize recreational marijuana use in Oklahoma. That is a resounding rejection of the movement, a major setback for the drug lobbyists.

The measure was opposed by most of the state’s leadership, including Republican lawmakers and Governor Stitt. This comes as 21 states have already legalized recreational marijuana use, including conservative states like Montana and Missouri.

But the facts are the facts. States have little to gain by legalizing the drug and much to lose. Oklahoma is already facing a crime and mental health epidemic, thanks to marijuana use. To legalize it entirely would have opened the floodgates, as many other states quickly learned.

Democrats claim marijuana must be legalized, over criminal justice claims. But those claims fall on deaf ears when you consider the damage recreational use of drugs has on young Americans. Oklahoma has already legalized medical use of the drug but continues to uphold measures to protect law and order.
