For decades we’ve been struggling with North Korea. The Communist dictatorship has promised to destroy the United States. Our allies in the Pacific face constant danger. But we’ve discovered they were behind a new global threat.
North Korea threatens the Pacific with their missile testing. They have promised to wipe out the United States. But countries like Japan and South Korea face the immediate threat. Unstable leader Kim Jong-Un could easily start a war. Millions of lives would be in danger.
But that’s not the only threat North Korea poses. We recently discovered they were behind a major attack. They attacked countries around the globe.
What was this attack? Only a devastating virus that held users’ data at ransom.
From Fox News:
North Korea was behind the massive “WannaCry” cyberattack in May that spread around the world costing billions of dollars, White House Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert announced in a Wall Street Journal op-ed Monday…
During the infamous attack, data were encrypted and ransom payment, in the form of bitcoin, was demanded of users if they wanted their data back…
Bossert went on to say the attack spread across the world and rendered hundreds of thousands of computers in in hospitals, schools, businesses, and homes useless unless the ransom was paid…
He added that the Department of Homeland Security was not taking the allegation lightly. He said it was based on credible evidence, that the United Kingdom attributes the attack to North Korea and that Microsoft traced the attack to cyber affiliates of the regime.
“North Korea has acted especially badly, largely unchecked, for more than a decade, and its malicious behavior is growing more egregious. WannaCry was indiscriminately reckless,” Bossert asserted. “Stopping malicious behavior like this starts with accountability. It also requires governments and businesses to cooperate to mitigate cyber risk and increase the cost to hackers.”
There’s nothing worse than knowing your computer has been violated. All of your personal data can be stolen by a hacker. Your finances and your identity can be taken.
This virus did just that. WannaCry hijacked a user’s computer, stealing all their data. It would then require the user to pay up, if they wanted to be freed. As you can imagine, it never works out that way.
This was a deliberate attack from North Korea. Their dictator wanted to assault people all over the world. Hundreds of thousands of computers were affected. The damage caused could take years to repair.
North Korea must be held accountable for their crimes. They won’t rest until the entire world is under their thumb. Unless the international community pushes back, these attacks will only continue.
