What’s Happening:
This week, America was shocked to learn of a mass shooting in Maine. At the time of this writing, a gunman killed sixteen people and injured others. Police and SWAT are conducting a manhunt.
The person of interest has not been apprehended as communities are under lockdown orders. Police warn civilians to avoid the possible culprit, saying he is armed and dangerous.
Such a crisis naturally requires a response from the president. Federal support can be critical in providing relief to victims and bringing the gunman to justice. But there has been no word on whether President Biden is providing aid to the state. Instead, one day after the tragedy, he posted this.
From X:
In the wake of yet another tragedy, I urge Republican lawmakers in Congress to fulfill their duty to protect the American people. Work with us to pass a bill banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, enact universal background checks, and more.
President Biden used the horrific Maine shooting to demand Republican lawmakers to pass an “assault weapons” and high-capacity magazine ban, as well as other heavy gun control restrictions.
Details related to the Maine shooter are not yet fully known. But Joe Biden’s campaign is already using the event to promote the Democrat’s agenda (the message was not posted to the official White House page, but Biden’s–with the “Biden/Harris” campaign logo beneath).
It is unclear what aid, if any, is being provided by the White House to the Maine communities impacted by this mass shooting. The suspect has been identified as former military, suggesting he will be harder to apprehend than most criminals.
Has federal authorities, including U.S. Marshals, been enlisted to help? Is the federal government sending FEMA or another agency to help victims’ families pick up the pieces of their lives?
We do not know. Instead, Biden and other Democrats are seemingly politicizing the terrible event to promote their agenda.
Press conferences featured local police, who are up against a man potentially far more deadly than they can handle. Civilian lives are still at risk. As each day passes, this man might be further and further from the New England state.
Yet Biden is prioritizing legislation that will have very little chance of passing in a Republican-controlled House. Meanwhile, he might be neglecting Americans in need.
Key Takeaways:
- One day after the Maine mass shooting, Joe Biden posted a demand to pass gun control.
- It is unclear whether the federal government has provided any other response.
- The suspect is still at large, as Democrats use the event to promote their agenda.
