Nancy Pelosi is finally no longer running the House of Representatives. Many changes have already taken place, like the removal of metal detectors that congressmen were required to use. But it appears Kevin McCarthy is far from finished erasing Pelosi’s legacy of tyranny.
It seems Pelosi went out of her way to make the House a laughing stock. Even implementing a rule that the Senate refused to embrace. So, McCarthy shut down this rule, requiring that every House member that wants to vote has to show up or shut up.
From Fox News:
House Republicans have officially ended the practice of proxy voting, which was established during the COVID-19 pandemic to permit lawmakers to vote without being present in-person.
“No more proxy voting,” House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., announced Thursday. “Effective immediately, Members of Congress have to show up to work if they want their vote to count.”
Finally! Proxy voting was such a joke. Pelosi implemented the rule, claiming it was safer during the height of the COVID pandemic. But she kept extending it, so lazy Democrats could vote from wherever. Some could have been overseas on vacation, refusing to show up and do their job.
Speaker McCarthy officially ended this policy, requiring all congressmen to be in person to vote. That means they will have to be in Washington, in the House chambers, to vote on bills. This is how it has been since the formation of our country.
Proxy voting was always shady. Congress members would send a letter to another person, someone actually in the chambers, to cast their vote. They didn’t call up on the phone. They didn’t even host a Zoom call!
Sounds like an easy way to rig voting, huh? How do we know anything that was passed by the House over the last few years was legitimate? Pelosi could have just forged letters to get controversial spending passed. Meanwhile, her lazy party was off breaking COVID lockdowns somewhere to party.
By doing this, McCarthy is requiring all members of the House to actually go to work in person. Sounds about right. There should be no “remote work” for people who claim to represent us. We literally elect them to go to Congress to vote on our behalf.
I’m sure plenty of Democrats will complain about this. But they don’t have to vote. They can just stay home and show the country, they don’t really care.
- Speaker McCarthy ended proxy voting for members of the House.
- The rule was implemented by Nancy Pelosi during the COVID lockdowns and never lifted.
- House members will now have to vote in person, as it has been since the start of the country.
