Kamala Harris Drops Major VP Hint, Teases It Could be the PA Governor

The political landscape is buzzing with anticipation. 2024 has already had unexpected twists and turns, the latest of which was Kamala Harris’s takeover of the Democratic Party.

Despite her lack of experience, accomplishments, or leadership ability, she made herself the nominee with zero public involvement. She now has to convince voters who are angry with Biden’s failures and distrust her party that she is the right person for the White House.

That’s a tall order for any candidate. But it’s next to impossible for someone who got zero votes in the 2020 Democratic primaries.

That is why the party is hoping for an ace in the hole to prop up their second-choice candidate, Kamala. If she picks the right vice presidential running mate, she could win back voters Biden burned. But she can’t pick someone more qualified or impressive than her—which is nearly impossible.

The person she picks could bring in more votes—or it could be the nail in her coffin. Rumors are growing, however, that she’s already made her decision. And if this is the case, Democrats shouldn’t be throwing their hats up into the air just yet.

From The Blaze:
The Harris campaign announced Tuesday evening that the vice president candidate would be making a first appearance with Harris on Aug. 6 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Many believe the location of the rally suggests that the VP pick will be Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro…

Democrats critical of Israel see Shapiro as a threat to their effort to tilt the Democratic Party against Israel in favor of the Palestinian demands. One group is going so far as to try to slap the moniker of “Genocide Josh” onto the governor.

Speculation on the VP Pick

Harris’s campaign has hinted that her vice presidential pick will join her on stage. The choice of Philadelphia as the venue has led many to believe that Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro could be her running mate. Democrats managed to reclaim Pennsylvania from Republicans in 2020, and securing Shapiro might help them retain this crucial state in the upcoming election.

But this isn’t as big of a slam dunk as Democrats hope. If Harris goes with Shapiro, it will only be an advantage if he can secure Pennsylvania for her. Shapiro is a no-name outside of the swing state. Harris is putting all her eggs in one basket, expecting that if she carries Pennsylvania, she will carry the election. That’s far from the truth, since Trump is winning Hispanic and minority voters in the critical state.

Progressives Won’t be Happy

Then, there is this bigger wrinkle. Ben Shapiro will be the first Jewish candidate for vice president. While that might not be a big deal to most, it’s very bad timing for Democrats and the Harris campaign. Harris has been trying to win back far-left progressives after they turned on President Biden.

The far left has become increasingly hostile to America’s ally Israel. That has spilled over into a growing antisemitic trend among progressives. It seems leftists consider all Jews to be guilty of what they have called “genocide” by Israel. Some are even calling Gov. Shapiro “Genocide Josh.” Should Harris pick him for her running mate, she can kiss the far left goodbye, the very group she’s been trying to win back.

A Moot Point?

Normally, a running mate pick is the cherry on top of a winning campaign. A strong candidate picks someone who will further enhance their popularity with voters. Trump did it in 2016, by picking a solid conservative governor.

But Harris fell into this position after Biden finally crashed and burned. She was not her party’s pick and she is an unlikeable and off-putting figure. A vice presidential pick cannot carry the entire campaign. Whoever she picks will end up losing credibility within his party, since he will be blamed in part for this titanic loss.

Key Takeaways:

  • Rumors abound that Kamala Harris will pick Josh Shapiro as her running mate.
  • Pundits claim she can win back Pennsylvania by picking the current governor.
  • She is sure to lose progressive voters, however, as Shapiro is Jewish.
