Jim Jordan Demands Critical Evidence in Trump Trial – They Want These Records ASAP

A wild slate of news about college campus protesters supporting terrorists and the ongoing border crisis hasn’t stopped Republicans from digging into the Biden administration. House GOP members have set their sights on a Biden supporter they believe has acted improperly.

Republicans want to know more about a former Biden administration employee who is now connected to criminal investigations into Trump. GOP leaders waded into murky legal waters this week and challenged the Biden administration to pony up the facts.

How this washes out in public could draw a different picture of how people perceive former President Donald Trump. He has a lot riding on a case in New York where a former Biden official is helping in efforts to send Trump to jail.

From the Washington Examiner:
The House Judiciary Committee asked the Department of Justice on Tuesday to provide information about its former employee Matthew Colangelo, one of the prosecutors leading the hush money case against former President Donald Trump in New York.

Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) said in a letter obtained by the Washington Examiner to Attorney General Merrick Garland that Colangelo’s recent work in the Biden administration’s DOJ and in New York Attorney General Letitia James’s office heightened concerns that the prosecution of Trump in Manhattan is politically motivated.

“That a former senior Biden Justice Department official is now leading the prosecution of President Biden’s chief political rival only adds to the perception that the Biden Justice Department is politicized and weaponized,” Jordan wrote.

Chairman Jordan asked Garland to respond by May 14. Jordan wants any records related to Colangelo’s hiring and termination. He also wants any records of Colangelo communicating with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office during his employment at the DOJ.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, an elected Democrat, wants Trump in jail. He charged Trump last year with falsifying business records and alleged he hid “hush money” payments to porn star Stormy Daniels in an effort to boost his 2016 election prospects. Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Colangelo has a history of investigating Trump while working for James, also an elected Democrat. He has been involved with investigations of Trump at the federal and state level. He has bounced from state jobs to positions at the DOJ over the last several years.

Jordan wrote that Colangelo’s employment history “demonstrates his obsession with investigating a person rather than prosecuting a crime.” Jordan’s calls for records related to Colangelo aren’t a new development.

Jordan set his sights on Colangelo last April just days after Trump was indicted. The chairman wanted Colangelo to testify before the House committee about Bragg’s case. The effort to get the testimony from Colangelo failed.

Key Takeaways:

  • Jordan requested records of the ex-DOJ employee helping the prosecution of Trump.
  • The House Judiciary Committee chairman believes the case is politically motivated.
  • Matthew Colangelo has bounced between federal and state prosecutors for years.
