At the start of 2018, California became a sanctuary state. Local cops are not allowed to cooperate with federal authorities. Illegal aliens are released back into the public.
This has made deporting illegals incredibly difficult. ICE has been forced to take greater steps to protect the United States.
But they just realized they can turn the tables on California. Border Patrol is now using CA’s tactics against them.
From Daily Caller:
Border patrol agents are refusing to hand over illegal immigrants with felony warrants to police in California because they can’t be sure local authorities will return the criminal aliens to federal custody, according to a top border security official in San Diego…
In a little-reported declaration in support of the Department of Justice’s March 6 lawsuit against California, Scott recalled multiple instances in which a Border Patrol agent in the San Diego sector determined that releasing a criminal alien to a local law enforcement would likely result in the person being released without notification to federal authorities…
Scott’s declaration, first reported March 19 by a local San Diego nonprofit news outlet, blamed the decisions on the California Values Act, the sanctuary state law that went into effect at the beginning of 2018. Also known as SB 54, the law sharply restricts communication between local police and federal immigration authorities, including about when criminal aliens are going to be released from local jails.
We know the people ICE and Border Patrol capture are not nice. These aren’t “dreamers” looking for a better life in the U.S. They are criminal scum who endanger citizens.
Yet if they are handed over to local police, they will most-likely get away. Imagine that! Police letting criminals go free, just because they are illegal aliens.
If an American citizen was arrested, they’d throw the book at them. But a person here illegally? California cops set them free!
Am I taking crazy pills?
Border Patrol cannot afford to let local cops release dangerous criminals. These people need to be handed over to federal authorities. ICE will prosecute and deport them as needed. California will not.
So, Border Patrol is playing the very game that has hurt their work.
California law enforcement will complain about this. They will say this is violation of their laws and jurisdiction. But they are the ones who created this situation. California lawmakers forbid local cops from cooperating with federal officials. They are the ones forcing them to release criminals into the public.
If local police are upset Border Patrol is doing the same, they only have to blame themselves.
