Despite mounting incriminating evidence, Hunter Biden is a free man who is not facing active criminal tax evasion charges. Federal prosecutors dropped the charges and Hunter is free to join his dad on the beach.
But Hunter may not be off the hook after federal prosecutors explained possible next steps. The son of the president may still face jail time. Hunter’s latest “not guilty” plea may be answered with federal charges outside of his dad’s home state of Delaware.
From Fox News:
Hunter Biden’s misdemeanor tax charges have been dismissed by a federal judge in Delaware, an expected move after his “sweetheart” plea deal fell through last month during his first court appearance in the case.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) asked for the charges to be dismissed. This followed the dismissal of felony gun charges last month. Prosecutors are now free to file charges on all counts separately, and possibly in a different venue, such as California or Washington, D.C., on the tax charges.
In the motion to dismiss the tax charges, according to The Daily Wire, prosecutors stated the Hunter’s case will likely “not resolve short of a trial” and that plea negotiations were “at an impasse.” Federal prosecutors have confirmed that Hunter is still under federal investigation.
Hunter’s initial plea deal was criticized by Republicans as a “sweetheart” offer that did not hold Hunter accountable for crimes. Critics said anyone else accused by the DOJ of such crimes would be facing years in prison with no plea deals.
While dismissing charges allows prosecutors to refile the case, Republicans still question whether Hunter will be held full accountable for his actions. The judge in the initial tax case was an appointee of former President Donald Trump who was confirmed in 2018 with support from Delaware’s Democratic senators.
It’s not likely Hunter will face a more impartial judge in liberal California or D.C., and Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) is suspicious of prosecutors’ intentions.
“Biden’s DOJ wants to dismiss the charges against Hunter, supposedly to refile them elsewhere, no doubt before some liberal judge who will rubber-stamp a sweetheart deal. Remember, when Biden’s DOJ and Hunter’s lawyers meet, they’re not negotiating. They’re conspiring.”
While Hunter Biden is still in hot water and facing federal charges, don’t expect strong odds that he’ll be sweating away in an unairconditioned federal prison anytime soon. Cotton’s estimation may prove true before this is all over.

- Federal prosecutors seek to move the case to new court.
