Hunter Biden Pleads Guilty, Turley Claims He ‘Lost His Game Of Chicken’

On Thursday, Hunter Biden finally pleaded guilty to all nine federal tax charges brought against him by special counsel David Weiss. This plea came as a major shock, as it seemingly came out of nowhere. It also could land Hunter in prison for up to seventeen years.

Hunter’s legal team claimed that he entered this plea to “spare” his family from the “needless embarrassment” of a second trial. They alleged that he didn’t want additional behavior from his days of drug addiction to be exposed to the world.

Now, however, renowned constitutional law expert Jonathan Turley is revealing the real reason Hunter likely pleaded guilty. Unfortunately for Hunter, it seems that he tried to play a “game of chicken,” only to lose miserably.

From Fox News:
JONATHAN TURLEY: …Many of us have been writing for months that Hunter Biden was perfectly insane not to plead guilty. Timing is important. You can get a better deal if you plead early rather than late. It’s sort of like waiting for the water to reach the deck on the Titanic before you ask about swimming lessons. I mean, it’s a little bit late for some of those options. And so he really has succeeded in putting himself in the worst possible position. In terms of a plea, this is the penalty for a lawyer standing in federal court and telling prosecutors, ‘just rip it up.’

And that’s what happened when the judge raised concerns about this sweetheart deal. And prosecutors admitted they’d never seen a deal like this being offered to a defendant. And the defense basically sort of tipped the table over and said, ‘well, we’re not going to cooperate.’ The Department of Justice later said that they still wanted to get a plea with Hunter, but they blamed the defense for its position. So there’s a lack of intelligent design here. I mean, in some ways, you could say, well, this is just a game of chicken, but if it is, they lost. By pleading guilty on the eve of the trial, you don’t have much to trade away.

This Guilty Plea Was Likely Political

It appears that Hunter’s decision to plead guilty was political in nature. If he had been planning to plead guilty all along, he would have done so far sooner. This would have allowed Hunter to work out a deal with prosecutors before they were forced to spend a ton of time and money on his case. In switching please at the last minute, however, this damage has already been done. This means that Hunter will have little ground to stand on when it comes time for his sentencing in December.

Indeed, it wouldn’t be surprising if Hunter’s guilty plea came after quite a bit of debate among Democrat power players behind the scenes. In the end, it was likely decided that Hunter must fall on his sword to prevent a barrage of negative media coverage aimed at Democrats in the final two months before the presidential election.

Turley is additionally correct in noting the “lack of intelligent design” that was at play here on Hunter’s end. As a member of the Democrat elite, Hunter likely thought that he would simply get away with everything that he’d done if he fought these charges long enough. This resulted in Hunter playing the ultimate “game of chicken.”

Unfortunately for him, however, it seems clear that this was a big mistake.

Here’s hoping that Hunter has the book thrown at him when he’s finally sentenced.
