What’s Happening:
Since Republicans took over the House early this year, they have conducted numerous investigations. Lawmakers like Jim Jordan have led probes into how the Biden administration has been running the government.
Republicans have accused Democrats of “weaponizing” branches of the government. Evidence suggests federal agencies have wielded their power to advance the left’s agenda.
From the FBI to the State Department, Republicans have been on the warpath to expose them. One agency in their sites is the IRS. And now, after a lengthy investigation, the IRS is ending this controversial practice.
From The Post Millennial:
In an interim staff report published on Friday, the Committee on the Judiciary and the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government outlined civil liberties abuses performed by the Internal Revenue Service and showed that the IRS ceased its unannounced visit policy after Congressional oversight.
House Republicans’ Weaponization investigation has accused the IRS of several “civil liberties abuses.” One of those abuses has been unannounced visits to Americans’ homes. In one case, the IRS sent an agent to the home of reporter Matt Taibbi on the same day he was to testify before Congress on government abuses.
Taibbi famously reported the “Twitter Files,” a series of bombshells that triggered these investigations into the Biden administration. In addition to this, the committee revealed that the IRS used a fake name and “deception to gain entry into the house of an Ohio taxpayer and then threatened her when asked to leave.”
The committee’s report went on to reveal that, since its investigations, the IRS has ended its policy of unannounced home visits. Republicans claimed the Biden-controlled agency used these visits to “harass, intimidate, and target taxpayers.”
Republicans have sounded the alarm over the IRS since Biden entered office. The president tried to pass legislation that would have added 87,000 new IRS agents. Others have revealed the IRS has been buying weapons to arm its agents.
Key Takeaways:
- Republican investigators revealed how Biden weaponized the IRS to harass Americans.
- A report showed how the IRS “violated civil liberties” of citizens, including unannounced house visits.
- After House investigations, the IRS has ended this particular policy.
