Florida Penalizes the NHL For Major Woke Move – DeSantis Draws the Line, Drops Hammer on “Discrimination of Any Kind”

The “woke” agenda appears to be invading every tier of society: from colleges to entertainment to businesses. If you’re an employer, you might feel compelled to bow to the woke mob.

Even some of the biggest corporations in the country – like the National Hockey League (NHL) – are starting to bow and scrape.

But they won’t get away with it in the state of Florida, so says Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office.

The NHL threw up a controversial job posting on LinkedIn, which announced the league’s “first-ever Pathway to Hockey Summit,” occurring during the 2023 All-Star festivities in South Florida.

The event is scheduled to be held on February 2, but it’s apparently open to only certain people:

Participants must be 18 years of age or older, based in the U.S., and identify as female, Black, Asian/Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, and/or a person with a disability. Veterans are also welcome and encouraged to attend.

As the posting says “participants must be…” this seems to imply that only those individuals are allowed. Obviously, this is just plain discrimination in the eyes of the state.

Gov. Ron DeSantis, one of the most popular state leaders in the country, quickly pushed back.

Spokesman Bryan Griffin responded to the job posting, calling it discriminatory and that it won’t be tolerated in the state of Florida. It’s the anti-woke rallying cry that DeSantis used to propel him to victory.

Griffin also instructed the NHL to “immediately remove and denounce the discriminatory prohibitions it has imposed.”

Discrimination of any sort is not welcome in the state of Florida, and we do not abide by the woke notion that discrimination should be overlooked if applied in a politically popular manner or against a politically unpopular demographic.

We are fighting all discrimination in our schools and our workplaces, and we will fight it in publicly accessible places of meeting or activity.

For a while now, we’ve been seeing reports of clear employment discrimination, which typically favors anybody who isn’t white, though specifically white males seem to be at the bottom of the pecking order.

In many job postings, Americans argue that special treatment is clearly being given to so-called “minorities” and “oppressed” groups.

Though these citizens wonder how any of them can be “oppressed” when they seem to get preferential treatment in every aspect of their lives, from school to work to government.

At least in the state of Florida, no discrimination or racism of any kind will be allowed. And the NHL must now respond.

Key Takeaways:

  • The NHL put up a job fair posting on LinkedIn, which restricted participation to only certain groups of people.
  • Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis spokesperson Bryan Griffin responded, saying discrimination of any kind isn’t allowed in the state.
  • He demanded the NHL “remove and denounce the discriminatory prohibitions it has imposed.”
