Florida Braces for Double-Whammy – After Facing a “Giant Blob,” Now the Sunshine State Stares Down Red Tide

What’s Happening:

Florida is not only the Sunshine State, the spring break destination, the land of palm trees and white sand beaches—it’s the land of the free and the home of the brave.

What was the tightest of swing states for decades is now firmly a red state. And it’s an example, under the leadership of Governor DeSantis, of a well-run state that doesn’t put up with wokeness, high taxes or government waste.

But now the state is facing a different kind of challenge—actually, 2 at the same time. From CBS News:

A toxic algae bloom known as red tide is already killing fish along the Gulf Coast, causing a stench. Now, a massive blob of seaweed twice as wide as the United States is drifting across the Atlantic and could wash ashore in the coming weeks, creating an even bigger mess.

The algae bloom has essentially choked some sea life, producing a foul smell as dead marine animals wash ashore.

It’s not the only effect. The ocean breeze can carry a toxin released by the red tide algae ashore, which can cause health problems for people including coughing, irritated throat and itchy eyes, as well as difficulty breathing and asthma attacks.

Still, another problem now looms: a 5,000-mile-wide patchwork of seaweed clumps in the Atlantic that is making its way toward the Caribbean and Mexico – and Florida beaches.

Imagine that: Florida gets hit by devastating hurricanes… but you don’t hear much about how well they recovered. And you’re not about to hear much about this problem either.

Because the government in Florida is far more efficient than most blue states. They partner with the private sector to get things done. They keep woke politics out of the classroom and the workplace.

They even stopped Disney from acting like its own little “kingdom” and made it submit to the same rules as everyone else.

So this red scourge will come, and it will go, as will the seaweed blob. We know it will go because Florida is the kind of state that screams in the face of adversity: “I dare you!”

They don’t whine about climate change and beg for another bailout after their policies fail. They take on the fury of hurricane winds and put the pieces back together.

And they go back to lounging in the sun and enjoying everything God’s good creation has to offer.

But if you are in Florida this Spring… take a quick look at the water before you jump in.

Key Takeaways:

  • Florida is facing a double whammy of a seaweed blob and a red tide.
  • The red state has proven time and again it is able to handle whatever Mother Nature throws at them.
