Florida has become a solid red state and a bastion of conservative views and patriotic beliefs. Most attribute this to Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is one of the most popular leaders in the country.

After coasting to a re-election victory last year, DeSantis has continued to push back against the Biden administration on multiple topics.

And now, the Sunshine State is about to unveil its “toughest” set of laws yet — designed to combat America’s #1 issue.

Illegal immigration and the border crisis has profoundly impacted the country, but southern states especially have struggled to deal with the endless flood of undocumented travelers.

Texas bears the brunt of the crisis and they’ve taken strides to protect their state, and the U.S., from a porous border.

But Florida has been doing their part, too, as Gov. DeSantis has often ripped the Biden administration for doing nothing about the crisis. So here comes a new legislative push, and it’s hefty.

The Republican-controlled Florida Legislature is in the process of considering an aggressive set of legislative proposals from Gov. Ron DeSantis to combat the illegal immigration crisis that has exploded during President Joe Biden’s administration.

The New York Times called DeSantis’ legislative push ‘the toughest crackdown’ on illegal immigration by any state in recent memory and noted that it is likely to pass and be signed into law.

When DeSantis revealed the ambitious plan, he said it will result in multiple moves to halt the influx of illegal travelers:

The legislation will “crack down on the smuggling of illegal aliens, stop municipalities from issuing ID cards to people here illegally, and ensure that employers are hiring American citizens or those here legally.”

DeSantis added that “Florida is a law and order state” and they refuse to “turn a blind eye to the dangers of Biden’s Border Crisis.”

These laws really set the standard for the rest of the country, in regards to strictness and upholding of existing immigration and citizenship law.

For example, the crime of smuggling illegal immigrants will become a third-degree felony with a maximum punishment of up to 5 years in prison. That could be upgraded to a second-degree felony (15 years) if the illegal is a minor.

The state would also ban local governments from handing out ID cards to undocumented residents, and all out-of-state licenses would be invalidated if they were issued to illegals.

Undocumented residents also wouldn’t be able to practice law, and it would shut down a loophole that lets ICE release illegal immigrants from detention.

In reaction to this overarching set of laws, Sen. Blaise Ingoglia (R-District 11) said:

I wholeheartedly thank and commend Gov. Ron DeSantis for having the courage to lead on this issue.

This problem is now at our doorstep, and Florida will not stand for it anymore.

Florida State Sen. Debbie Mayfield (R-District 19) clarified that none of these laws are written to “hurt or harm people who are here illegally.”

This is simply about enforcing existing laws and as Mayfield said, “we have a process in this country.” Completely ignoring this process entirely for the sake of political correctness seems absurd.

More illegal immigration is expected throughout 2023, especially after Biden lifts Title 42, a move many experts say would be a colossal mistake.

Border authorities are already predicting more illegal crossings this year than ever before, building on records set just last year. In 2022, an estimated 1.2 million illegals found their way into the country.

Florida and DeSantis are sick of this mess, as are millions of concerned Americans.

That’s why this ambitious legislation will likely be viewed as a step in the right direction, and something other states should seriously consider.
