DeSantis Hits Disney with Hot New Investigation – Florida Governor Is Searching for Fat Cat Violations

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis vs. Disney has become a common theme in the past year or so.

The popular GOP state leader and the mega corporation have clashed on numerous issues, especially regarding Disney’s adherence to the law.

Now, DeSantis is doubling down and escalating the battle.

The Governor has demanded that the state chief inspector general investigate the former Reedy Creek Improvement District board.

This comes after the group struck a deal with Disney that tried to undermine the state’s takeover of the district.

DeSantis wasn’t a fan of the move and now he wants answers from a new investigation.

From the Washington Examiner:

The letter from DeSantis requests the investigation look for any ‘any legal or ethical violations’ by the board in relation to their conduct before the state takeover of the district.

Specifically, the probe will focus on whether or not Disney followed the law, and it will also determine the qualifications of the board members.

On top of that, they’ll go after the Reedy Creek Improvement District, and the bill that restructured the district and several surrounding counties.

This builds upon an existing fight between Disney and the state, which has been ongoing for many months.

DeSantis’ office says Disney just keeps trying to maneuver for “special corporate benefits and dodge Florida law,” while Disney says the state is abusing its authority.

Other critics maintain that Disney’s “woke” agenda has put them in the Governor’s dog house.

It’s certainly true that Disney’s stock woes of 2022 might be attributed to a shift in focus and tone, which many parents are pushing back against.

But in this case, it’s a corporate vs. state battle, and DeSantis isn’t about to back down.

Key Takeaways:

  • Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has ordered a new investigation into Disney.
  • The probe will focus on a new deal between Disney and the Reedy Creek Improvement District.
  • The state accuses Disney of continually trying to circumvent the law, and gain special corporate treatment.
