Over the years, we’ve heard about growing conflicts among Democrats. But, despite deep divisions, the party has managed to unify when it mattered most.
But recent events appear to be splintering the party in ways few could have predicted.
Top Democrat Sen. Cory Booker was in his home state of New Jersey. He was giving a speech on the eve of this year’s elections. But during his talk, he was shouted down by liberals angry over this growing issue.

According to reports and video, Sen. Booker’s event was hijacked by anti-Israel protesters. Footage shows that these people wore gloves stained with what appeared to be fake blood, suggesting they had planned to disrupt the event.
The chanting became so bad, that the hosts tried to drown it out with music. But even a loud broadcast of “We Are Family” did not deter activists demanding Democrats end the U.S.’s support of Israel.
Booker tried to redirect the chaos by chanting “Column A, all the way!” But that did apparently little to stop demonstrators from derailing the event.
This comes as progressive Democrats side with pro-Palestinians over the Israel-Hamas war. Democrats have chanted the same slogans Hamas uses to call for the destruction of the Jewish state.
Members of Congress, like Rep. Rashida Tlaib, have even thrown accusations against President Biden. A member of his own administration accused him of being “complicit in genocide” for supporting Israel’s war with Hamas.
The shocking support by some Democrats to an anti-Israel movement has shocked Americans and fellow liberals. There appears to be a growing rift within the party between those who support our ally Israel and those who want to support a group that hates Israel.
President Biden could very well be pressured to drop support for the one Jewish state in the world, to appease progressives.
This division will not easily be mended. Progressives have accused Israel of being “colonizers” and an “apartheid state,” despite evidence to the contrary. And Democrats who support Israel are unlikely to side with these progressives.
How this will affect the future of the party? It’s anyone’s guess.
