After Democrat Florida Mayor Gets Arrested – DeSantis Puts His Career Into a Sudden Tailspin

It has been a rough week for one Democrat Mayor in the Sunshine State.

North Miami Beach Mayor Anthony DeFillipo has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies. This involves election fraud, which is something Republicans have been railing against for years.

Now, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is taking action — and DeFillipo’s career could be over.

DeFillipo was charged last week with three counts of “Election-Unqualified Voter,” and each of those counts is a third-degree felony. Basically, it says he voted illegally in an election over and over.

If convicted on each count, he faces a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.

This is all more than enough to convince DeSantis that DeFillipo shouldn’t have a job. And while he’s not fired as of yet, he certainly won’t be coming into work.

Via The Daily Wire:

Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis suspended North Miami Beach Democrat Mayor Anthony DeFillipo from office on Monday after he was arrested and charged with multiple felonies for allegedly voting illegally in an election multiple times.

‘Anthony F. DeFillipo II is suspended from the public office, which he now holds, to wit: Mayor of the City of North Miami Beach,’ DeSantis said in an executive order.

The Governor’s executive order didn’t end there, though.

It also banned DeFillipo from “performing any official act, duty, or function of public office; from receiving any pay or allowance; and from being entitled to any of the emoluments or privileges of public office during the period of this suspension…”

Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle (a Democrat, by the way) stated during a press conference that DeFillipo “voted illegally three times.”

Apparently, DeFillipo had moved out of North Miami Beach, but allegedly came back to vote three times in a district in which he no longer lived. Cell phone data tracked his activity.

DeFillipo said in his defense that he just “totally forgot,” though he’ll have to somehow prove that in court.

Critics maintain that someone won’t “forget” that he can’t vote in the district he no longer lives in, especially as an elected official. Others say he certainly won’t get jail time either way.

But Gov. DeSantis isn’t about to let DeFillipo continue in his duties after being arrested, that’s for certain.

Key Takeaways:

  • Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has suspended North Miami Beach Democrat Mayor Anthony DeFillipo.
  • DeFillipo was arrested and charged with three counts of voting illegally in an election, and faces up to 15 years in prison.
  • DeSantis’ executive order suspends DeFillipo, and also bars him from performing any official duty and from getting any pay.
