What’s Happening:
Politicians are supposed to have thick skin and make themselves available to the American people they serve. The news media, when conducting real journalism, is tasked with holding politicians accountable to the people for their actions.
But some politicians don’t like getting caught red-handed, so they threaten to take down the journalists. Such a scene played out this week when a journalist called out a liberal Democrat for possibly funding a terrorist group.
From the Daily Caller:
Democratic Texas Rep. Colin Allred threatened to call the Capitol Police on a citizen journalist rather than answer a question about reports he had backed the release of millions of dollars that potentially funded the terrorist organization Hamas, according to a video obtained exclusively by the Daily Caller.
The journalist had repeatedly asked Allred if the congressman regretted calling for the release of millions of dollars for Hamas. Allred’s reaction was typical of Democrats not wanting to answer for their actions and lashing out against getting called out by the people.
“I’ll get the Capitol Police for you,” Allred responded while a female walking with the congressman told the journalist he could not record in the building. She told the journalist he was “on federal property” and to stop what he was doing.
House rules state that for electronic media coverage ““[v]ideotaping and audio recording are permitted in the public areas of the House and Senate office buildings.” The Daily Caller reported that the video was taken inside of the public area of the Cannon House Building.
The journalist didn’t quit and asked more questions about why Allred appeared to stand with Hamas over Israel and why the congressman supports Biden’s open border policies. Allred responded again by stating he would get the Capitol Police.
News reports have detailed how Allred co-signed a letter in June 2021 that urged the Biden administration to release millions of dollars in funds to the West Bank, which is controlled by the Palestinian Authority, as well as to Gaza, where Hamas gained control in 2007. The letter did not specifically call for funds to go directly to Hamas.
Allred has made headlines recently as a Democrat candidate to oppose incumbent U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tx) in 2024. Texas has been overrun with illegal immigrants under the Biden administration, including recent detainees who are associated with countries in the Middle East.
Key Takeaways:
- Citizen journalist challenges Democrat congressman over funds.
- Allred’s response is shocking after he calls for police intervention.
- Allred refused to directly answer repeated questions about his actions.
