The new congressman classed up Saturday Night Live with a message for veterans, and it even has conservatives applauding.
SNL once poked fun at both Democrats and Republicans, but lately the show has been filled with never-ending Trump-bashing, spearheaded by Alec Baldwin’s impersonation of the President.
The show has also mercilessly mocked anyone right of center, from Senator Ted Cruz to war hero and Congressman-elect Dan Crenshaw.
But it was comedian Pete Davidson’s comments about Crenshaw last week that sparked a huge controversy.
Davidson joked about Crenshaw’s eyepatch, which he wears to cover the eye he lost while serving in Afghanistan. Davison claimed Crenshaw looked like “a hit man in a porno movie”, and then lamely said, “Sorry, I know he lost his eye in war, or whatever.”
Davison’s bit was widely criticized by both the right and left for being tasteless.
But Crenshaw got the last laugh, and was invited on the show to get in a few jabs at Davidson.
After Davison apologized to Crenshaw, the Marine graciously accepted, and then got to tell a few jokes of his own about Davidson’s appearance.
“Pete Davidson looks like if the meth from Breaking Bad was a person” Crenshaw jokes, and then said Davidson, “looks like a troll doll with a tape worm,” earning big laughs from the studio audience.
But Crenshaw then switched gears and adopted a more serious tone, delivering a powerful message for all Americans to hear on Veterans Day.
Crenshaw’s touching speech shows what a class act he truly is. His forgiveness of Davidson was a strongly needed show of unity between the right and the left.
It was also extremely moving that Crenshaw took the time to honor all veterans for their service, including Davidson’s own firefighter father.
Crenshaw ended his SNL appearance by encouraging all Americans to tell a veteran, “Never Forget”, because such a statement says that you, as an American, “are in it with them”.
SHARE if you want to tell every veteran Never Forget to honor them this Veterans Day!
