What’s Happening:

As Russia marched across Ukraine, lawmakers demanded Biden take stronger measures. At first, he refused to ban the import of Russian oil. But when it become obvious Congress was going to move, he quickly issued a ban of his own.

That hasn’t stopped Democrats from moving ahead with their own ban, in the form of legislation. But they left out one important thing.

The Democrats’ attempts to punish Putin leave out something major. Their moves would reduce America’s access to oil, but without any plan on replacing it. This is typical, since Democrats never think through their decisions. Republicans demanded they account for this change.

And, when Democrats refused, a small group of conservatives voted against this bill. From Breitbart:

The House moved to ban the importation of Russian gas on Wednesday night, however many Republicans voted against the bill as it would not boost American energy production to offset rising energy costs.

The House passed on H.R. 6968, the Suspending Energy Imports from Russia Act. The vote featured overwhelming support for the bill, gaining 414 votes for the measure, and 17 Republicans and Democrats against the bill.

House lawmakers voted on a bill that would ban Russian oil from being imported into the U.S. But, stupidly, it did not include any measure to increase American oil production. Do these lawmakers not realize that we need energy from somewhere? OPEC in the Middle East refuses to take Biden’s calls. Are we supposed to run our cars (and homes) on pixy dust? Even EVs need fossil fuels to charge their batteries.

Only 17 Republicans voted against this bill, because it did not include measures to increase American energy production. Banning Russian oil is all well and good. But if Congress does not come up with an alternative, they are hurting Americans more than Russia.

Rep. Thomas Massie blasted Biden for trying to “buy oil from dictators in other countries,” but not increasing American oil. It’s true that reports indicate Biden was even trying to buy oil from Venezuela. Yet he has not lifted orders that hamper American oil production.

It seems like everything Biden does is at the expense of Americans. Not once does he seem to be putting American families first? Big businesses benefit. The radical left benefits. Even globalist special interest groups benefit. But not Americans.
