With a Republican majority in the House, Congress isn’t forcing through Biden’s agenda. Democrats are urging Kevin McCarthy to lean on his party. But hardliners on the right wing refuse to rubberstamp anything without accountability.
At the moment, Congress is trying to push through a funding bill for the military. Much of the billions appropriated through this bill goes to defense contractors. Not to mention the hefty salaries of Biden’s progressive officers. But one Republican congresswoman has come up with a plan to hold these officials accountable.
From The Washington Examiner:
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) filed four salary-slashing Holman rule amendments to the Department of Defense appropriations bill as they look to cut the salaries of officials they believe have failed at their jobs…
The leaders targeted by Boebert include Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Readiness Shawn Skelly, the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Director Cyrus Salazar, Director of DOD Diversity and Inclusion Novel Dillard, and Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness Gil Cisneros.
Her amendments would slash all of their salaries down to $1.
Rep. Boebert is introducing amendments to the Defense spending bill that would slash the salaries of top DOD officials. She is using the Holman rule as a way of sending a message to the Biden administration. Instead of impeaching officials who have fallen short, these measures would cut their salaries to just one dollar.
Republicans have been heavily critical of not only Biden but the political appointees that make up his administration. Those who serve him in the Pentagon appear to be progressive activists. They have spent more time pushing woke causes like climate change and white supremacy, rather than protecting the country.
Things are getting so bad within our military that recruitment has fallen to an all-time low. Few young Americans are willing to subject themselves to woke education when all they want to do is serve their country.
It’s unclear if these amendments will pass. Chances are, Democrats (and some House Republicans) will refuse to add them to the bill. But this is only one hurdle to getting this spending bill passed. Right-wing congressmen have been very vocal about tanking this bill if their demands are not met.
- Boebert introduced measures to slash Biden’s DOD officials’ salaries.
- The measures would cut top military officials’ pay to only $1.
- Republicans have accused Biden’s military of neglecting their duty to America.
