What’s Happening:
Many critics have commented on President Biden’s response to the Israel-Hamas war. The United States has pledged support for Israel. But some say that moving forces into the region will only escalate tensions.
Progressives have attacked Biden, issuing what sounded like threats over his support for Israel. Biden, in what could be an act of appeasement to the left, vowed to send billions of dollars in aid to Gaza.
That didn’t seem like enough to those who attack Israel and support Palestinians. And now, Biden is saying something that is outraging many.
From The Post Millennial:
“The United States remains committed to the Palestinian people’s right to dignity and to self-determination,” Biden posted to X on Tuesday morning…Biden’s remarks prompted numerous reactions, including one from Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton (R), who said: “The last time Gazans ‘self-determined,’ they elected a terrorist group to lead their government.”
“The Palestinian people of Gaza LITERALLY ELECTED HAMAS,” commented former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Monica Crowley.
President Biden posted to X that Palestinians have the right to “dignity and to self-determination.” It’s unclear what he meant by that. But many critics pounced on the statement to point out Palestinians’ connection with terror group Hamas.
Republican Sen. Tom Cotton claimed that Palestinians living in Gaza elected Hamas to lead their government. Former Treasury official Monica Crowley echoed those sentiments in response to Biden’s post.
Moderates have gone out of their way to claim that Hamas does not represent the values of all Palestinians. That may be true. But most of the progressives supporting Palestinians do not seem to see a distinction between the people group and the goals of the terrorist organization.
The chant “Free Palestine” is often associated with destroying Israel and the Jewish people. Democrats fail to point out that, while Hamas routinely hurts the people of Gaza, many Palestinians share its views on Israel.
President Biden has vowed to send billions in aid to the Palestinians, despite mounting economic problems in America. Critics have pointed out that all aid sent to Gaza is seized by Hamas and used to create weapons against Israel.
Key Takeaways:
- President Biden posted his support for the Palestinians’ right to “self-determination.”
- Republicans blasted the point, pointing out that Gaza residents elected terror group Hamas to lead them.
- Biden has pledged over $3 billion in aid to the Palestinians displaced by the war.
