Republicans are showing they aren’t afraid to fight fire with fire. The latest revelation from a leading GOP contender in the 2024 presidential race sent a wave of fear through the White House.
Democrats have continued their radical efforts to remove former President Donald Trump from the ballot this election cycle. This GOP leader just let liberals know that he doesn’t plan to fight with one hand tied behind his back.
Liberals often believe Republicans won’t fight back when attacked by the radical ideologues on the left. That narrative fell apart when Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) sent a rude wake-up call that shocked Democrats. He doesn’t plan to let Biden off the hook if Democrats toss Trump off election ballots.
From The Daily Wire:
“Whatever the rules are applied to us, we’re going to fight back and play the rules the other way,” DeSantis said.
Multiple lawsuits in several states have argued that Trump is not qualified to be on the ballot, citing the insurrection clause in the 14th Amendment. Republicans argue that this type of disqualification opens the door for opposition parties to remove candidates from ballots based on suspect legal reasoning.
DeSantis said he is looking into the possibility of removing Biden from the ballot in Florida. “Could we make a credible case that Biden, because of the invasion of eight million?” the governor said, referring to illegal immigrants crossing our southern border.
Biden’s policies since taking office have been credited with allowing millions of illegal immigrants to flow across the U.S. southern border. Large cities, heavily populated with Democrat voters, have been begging for a reprieve after the surge of illegals has crippled city budgets.
Biden has been credited by Democrats and Republicans for the problem after he reversed several Trump-era policies that curbed the immigration. All the while Biden blames Trump and Republicans for the ongoing invasion.
DeSantis doesn’t believe the best solution is a tit-for-tat scenario where Republicans toss Biden off the ballot in response to Democrats starting the ball rolling. But he hasn’t ruled out a fight fire with fire response.
“You know, we’ve got a better way forward,” DeSantis added. “And then when I become president, I’m going to be able to address all the lawfare and all the weaponization, and we’ll be able to end this stuff once and for all.”
The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to take a key case on the issue. The Colorado Supreme Court ruled 4-3 last month to remove Trump from the ballot, but the decision has been stayed pending an appeal to the nation’s highest court. Oral arguments are scheduled to begin on Feb. 8 with the high court expected to rule quickly on the ballot issue.
Key Takeaways:
- DeSantis said he is ready to fight back against efforts to toss Trump from ballots.
- He posed the idea of fighting fire with fire by removing Biden from the 2024 slate.
- A decision on the issue is racing toward a fast ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court.
