What’s Happening:

Ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter, big things have been happening. Other social networks have been watching how Musk is handling free speech. And many on the left are terrified, as the social network allows conservatives to freely speak their mind, without fear of censorship or blacklisting.

But recently, conservative media outlet Daily Wire claimed their documentary “What is a Women” was blocked from Twitter. The company claimed someone at Twitter refused to let them stream the movie because it “misgendered” transgender people. Daily Wire stirred up a storm online, calling on Elon Musk to address this supposed act of censorship. And the billionaire was quick to respond.

This was a mistake by many people at Twitter. It is definitely allowed.

Whether or not you agree with using someone’s preferred pronouns, not doing so is at most rude and certainly breaks no laws.

I should note that I do personally use someone’s preferred pronouns, just as I use someone’s preferred name, simply from the standpoint of good manners.

However, for the same reason, I object to rude behavior, ostracism or threats of violence if the wrong pronoun or name is used.

After contacting Daily Wire and Matt Walsh, the filmmaker behind the documentary, Musk himself addressed the issue. He said the censorship of the film was a “mistake by many people at Twitter.” He said the film was allowed and, so afterward, he posted the film himself to his Twitter feed.

Plenty of conservatives were upset when they learned about this situation. Even notable figures like Jordan Peterson (who partners with Daily Wire) called on Elon Musk to clarify. This censorship looked like a dramatic reversal of what we have seen in recent months since Musk took over.

But we have to wonder, who were these people who went out of their way to ban this film–after (according to Daily Wire) the social network had approved it?

We can’t say for sure. But soon after this drama, several notable people resigned from the company.

Head of Twitter Trust and Safety is reported to have resigned on Thursday. This comes after a deal between Twitter and The Daily Wire to promote the year anniversary of Matt Walsh’s What Is a Woman? documentary was collapsed over “misgendering.”

Huh. The head of “Trust and Safety” resigned just a day after the Daily Wire kerfuffle. Did she leave because her design to censor the movie was overturned by Elon? Or was she fired, because she had a conflict with the owner of the social network? We can’t say for sure, but there is no way this news is unrelated.

Another Twitter employee, who worked in the company’s “brand safety” division, also announced she was leaving this week.

It looks like Musk still needs to cull the social network of liberals who don’t believe in free speech. We’ll have to wait and see what happens, once he steps down as CEO.
