After Trump Teases ‘Major Announcement’ – The 2024 Candidate Just Launched His New ‘Superman’ NFT

What’s Happening:

Donald Trump announced his 2024 candidacy back in November. And… nothing seems to have changed. He was let back onto Twitter but has refused to use the service despite the chance of making a powerful impact (and what presidential candidate doesn’t want to use a social network?).

This week, he teased another huge announcement. Another? Bigger than running for president? On his social network, he unveiled the “big news.” But it was not what anyone was expecting. And some are wondering what the heck he is thinking.

From The Hill:

Former President Trump on Thursday announced a line of digital trading cards bearing his likeness after teasing a day earlier that he would be making a “major announcement.” […]

Trump boasted that the digital trading cards “feature amazing ART of my Life & Career!” and compared them to a baseball card, “but hopefully much more exciting.” The cards are on sale for $99 each.

Uh… what? Donald Trump announced he is selling “digital trading cards” featuring his likeness on comic book-style bodies. These NFTs will sell for $99 each, and there are about 45,000 up for grabs.

It’s unclear if this new product has anything to do with his presidential campaign. The cards can be bought with cryptocurrencies, which have been losing value recently during the FTX scandal. According to Trump’s website, buying one of these cards puts you in a sweepstake to win a dinner with the man. If you buy 45 of the cards (costing nearly $4500), you are promised a dinner with Trump.

The news of this ego-centric announcement did not go over well with Americans.

From The Sun:

Twitter users quickly ripped Trump’s announcement calling it the “end of the road” for the sole 2024 presidential candidate.

“Trump is releasing NFT trading cards of himself… it really is the end of the road,” blasted one critic…

“My guy has totally lost it. The Loser Energy and grift is just off the charts. Biden is winning Montana and Alaska in 2024 at this rate,” the Twitter user added.

Soon after the announcement was made, Trump posted a video to his social network. The video outlined his plan to enact restrictions on social networks if he returns to the White House.

The news of Trump’s NFTs has not appeared to excite many people. And it could further damage his credibility going into the 2024 race.

Key Takeaways:

  • Trump’s teased announcement was a set of NFTs featuring Trump as a superhero.
  • The digital cards will cost $99. There are 45,000 for sale.
  • Supporters and critics alike were surprised by the news and not impressed.
